Social Media company tik tok may face ban in USA from 19th january 2025.
San Francisco: After months of legislative efforts to ban the social media app TikTok in the United States, the battle is set to reach its climax on Friday as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments determining the app’s future for its 170 million American users.
Meanwhile the justices asked very tough questions to both sides, If TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. TikTok faces a ban in the US unless it is sold by its Chinese parent company.
Why USA Government banning Tik Tok?
ByteDance the parent Chinese company of Tik TOk have been accused by USA lawmakers and officials of being linked to the Chinese government.
Many have raised national security concern over the ByteDance ,claiming that it could be forced to hand over data 0f 170 million US users by Chinese government. The US Justice Department has said that because of its Chinese parent company have access to data of American users, TikTok is posing national-security threat.
In year 2024 april, President Joe Biden signed a bill , giving ByteDance nine months to sell theirs company to any US-approved buyer or TikTok will shut down across the US. Other side TikTok parent company ByteDance deny any connection with Chinese Government. they have also said that any data of any user in never handed over to Chinese Government.
ByteDance have filed multiple legal challenges against the law of US, saying that it is “unconstitutional” and would have a “staggering” impact of free speech of Us citizen by censoring their US users.
